UIS Analytical Services was incorporated in 2000 with two companies being the major shareholders: the South African company LabInvest Consulting (Pty) Ltd and the German company UIS Beteiligungs- and Beratungsgesellschaft mbH.

During 2003 the initial two shareholding companies sold all their shares to individual shareholders in order to provide for shareholding of Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDIs), together holding the majority shareholding of 25,1 %, making UIS Analytical Services one of the few chemistry laboratories in South Africa with Black Empowerment status.

BEE Verification

In order to comply with current BEE legislation UIS has for years achieved BEE accreditation through BEE Verification Agency cc, a SANAS accredited verification agency, and recently obtained Level 4 contributor status.

This puts UIS in a favourable position with the customers who often have to make the choice of laboratory not only by the laboratories' capabilities, price and turn-around time, but also BEE status. The success of becoming the preferred supplier is evident in the large number of customers, big and small, who use UIS for its quality of service and BEE status.

Employment Equity

UIS Analytical Services strives, in accordance with the Employment Equity Act, to afford all staff the opportunity to realise their full potential.

UIS's management and personnel are continuously involved in determining training and development needs and in implementing and monitoring a labour plan. Special attention is given to those groups which, because of historic reasons, may be in a disadvantaged position.

In accordance with the Employment Equity Act UIS annually submits a workplace skills plan to the Department of labour to report on expenditure and progress of our employment equity plan.

Human resource policies and procedures also address the issues of non-discrimination, disciplinary practices, affirmative action etc.
