On 31 May 2012 the Kimberley branch of UIS Analytical Services  held its first "Take a Child to Work" day. On this day learners of grade 11 were given the chance to experience a day in the life of South Africa's working class and they were also educated on career choices that are available in the field of science. The learners and teachers who attended came from schools situated in the Kimberley area. The schools who attended were Homevale, Floors, Tshireleco, Kimberley Girls High, Adamantia, Noord Kaap, Diamantveld and Tlhomelang.

The day started with an opening and welcoming speech by Garfield Booys. Siyanda Jack then briefed everybody on safety in the laboratory, followed by his presentation on careers in Geology. Vivian van Wyk held a presentation on career choices in the Chemistry field. Ricardo Kayser held a presentation on career choices in the field of Chemical Engineering. Henriette Marais then finally held a speech on the role and duties of an Administrative Assistant.

After the speeches and presentations the learners and teachers were taken for a tour through the laboratory. The Laboratory assistants explained their daily role and duties to the learners and also presented them with practical examples of what is being done in the laboratory.

After the tour the visitors were treated to a light snack and everybody was thanked for their participation.
